Reading, writing and Maths are important skills for everyone. There are many adults who want to improve their skills. Would you like to:

    Play Writing

    Have you ever thought you might like to write for the theatre? Would you like to try a play, maybe, or a comedy? Have you ever listened to a radio drama and thought ‘I could do that?’ Different aspects of playwriting will be explored and tried out. Suitable for anyone with an interest in writing, whether you have any experience or not.

    How to Create Your First Website

    This course will introduce you to website building at a basic level. Learn how to register/buy a domain name, upload files to the Internet and get some tips for a good website design! You will need to be confident using a PC and using the Internet.

    NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills

    (changing to NCFE Level 2 Award in Helping Skills)

    This 42 hour qualification is the natural progression for students who have completed an Introduction to Counselling course and wish to progress further, developing a sound level of competence in counselling skills. The course has been developed for those who use counselling skills as part of their functional role, which might be in a voluntary or paid context, eg. nurses, police personnel, line managers, youth workers etc. You should have either successfully completed an Introductory course in counselling or have certified practical experience of using counselling skills over at least 30 hours.

    Speaking confidently and asserting yourself in the workplace can be a challenge; you need a positive attitude and a confident approach. This course will help you develop assertive communication skills whether you're looking to return to work or to use in your current job.

    learndirect offers high quality, interactive learning materials. Courses are computer based allowing you to learn at a learndirect centre, at work or anywhere you can access the Internet. Information and registration each Wednesday.

    Patient Advice & Liaison Service (PALS)

    Free, confidential health advice and support for patients, families and their carers. Drop in and chat with a PALS volunteer about the NHS, health issues, social care services and local support groups.

    FIS offers a wide range of information for families with children, including support for tough times, free kids activities, school preference, childcare searches and information for those interested in a childcare career.

    Money, Debt & Benefit advice

    Appointments are confidential and held in a private space. 

    St. Luke' s Advice Service:  help to apply for benefits (including DLA & WTC) and support to appeal benefit decisions; debt advice including rent and mortgage arrears; help with general legal issues around housing.

    Money Advice and Community Support Service (MACSS): if you are in debt or at risk of debt: help to deal with creditors and set up repayment agreements; checking benefit entitlement; budgeting and help to write a financial statement and apply for charitable grants
